Welcome!
Molecular & Microbiology and Bioinformatics have merged to form the School of Systems Biology.

We are home to  graduate Biology, Bioinformatics and  Biosciences programs, and collaborate with the undergraduate Biology Program to provide up-to-date coursework and training.

Our mission is to prepare students for a variety of career paths including health care fields, the biotechnology industry, biomedical research, biostatistical analysis, biodefense, environmental science and conservation biology, as well as preparation for doctoral programs in the life sciences. The program is supported by a unique convergence of corporate and academic facilities on George Mason University’s Fairfax and Prince William campuses. Students have opportunities to join faculty in ongoing research collaborations with local institutions such as INOVA Healthcare Systems, National Institutes of Health, the Smithsonian Institution, American Type Culture Collection, Naval Research Labs and the National Zoo, and are able to benefit from the rich network of research facilities and state-of-the-art technology centers in Northern Virginia.
